When I was young I used to hide from pain.
I didn't try to change, and it was kind of strange
how all the demons I was running from
were getting harder to outru-un. Whoa...
I used to notice how you pull my weight
and you would try to save me from my own mistakes
But wait, I understand that you need a helping hand
so I know that something's gotta be done, though.

I thought this would be over forever ago (ago) But no...
Now I wake up every morning and I already know, I know...

Woke up this morning, or at least I tried
Outside is calling but the dream is still inside
I can feel the carpet, underneath my feet
so I should get started even though I am complete.
Gotta take a deep breath, and begin this day.
Nothing is perfect but it's like that anyway.
No mistake, I'm in the shade but I see the sunshine
so you can have a little peace of mind.

Sometimes you ask me if I need your help.
I'll do it all myself, I want nobody else.
But then you see the look inside my eyes
and you can feel these lies in disguise. Though,
when I'm alone at home I ask myself,
“How did I get into all of these things I do?”
But then I think about the work we've done
it's like I've just become so numb.
